How To Fix WPDataTables Error “You are trying to load a table of an unknown type” in WordPress

If you get the following error in WordPress when using the WPDataTables plugin, follow these steps to fix it:

"You are trying to load a table of an unknown type. Probably you did not activate the addon which is required to use this table type."

SOLUTION SUMMARY: You must update the plugin files manually, deactivate then activate the plugin. DO NOT DELETE the plugin, deactivate only!

1. Download the package files and extract. Here is a link to the download location which you must login to access: https://codecanyon.net/downloads
2. Remove the directory ~/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/wpdatatables (your location may vary widely)
3. Upload the wpdatatables directory from the extracted zip package file to the directory ~/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/wpdatatables (your location may vary widely)
4. In the WordPress Admin area, select Plugins from the left menu
5. Deactivate the wpDataTables plugin, then Activate it once the page refreshes
6. Done!
