What’s a Browser?

Just had a conversation with someone about the new iPad that they bought. They asked me if they needed to transfer their email from the PC. It took a while, but it became clear they they had no clue what a browser was, or the fact that GMail lives on Google’s servers.
It is very hard for me to understand that people use computers and do not have a clue about what they are doing. It is a requirement in the USA that automobile drivers be trained, tested and licensed. Unfortunately, just anyone can buy a computer (or have a child) and use (or raise) it with no training or understanding at all.
